What is a Community?
Communities are sociologically defined as a group of people with an intimate knowledge of each other with 30-150 members. They are the opposite of large scale organizations like corporations with several hundred or even thousand employees or nations with millions of citizens which share nothing than the same payroll or passport.
Roles within a Community
Communities are about people. We have linked the natural roles within a community to our credit system and one could thus perceive Genuine Growth also as a community game and community members as the players.
- Convener: A community convener is a person who brings a group of people on a regular basis together; this could be the mountain guide, the pottery teacher, the head of the HR department in a company, the environmental science teacher in school. Through the Genuine Growth platform, the community convener has an overview of all community members and decides which curriculum elements are hosted in her community.
- Student: somebody who has registered a Genuine Growth account. Students are usually a member of one or more communities. We encourage trans-generational learning and thus want families to join communities together. We are also convinced that many 10 year olds do understand more of our world than many adults. Therefore, everybody of age 10 and older can become a Genuine Growth student.
- Facilitator: a person who has been approved by the community as being qualified to deliver part of the curriculum. The instructor can be both a member of the community or an outside person.
- Assistant: a person who aspires to become a facilitator in regard to part of the curriculum and who has started to train with a qualified facilitator.
